Superintendent of Documents-- SUDOC numbers are assigned by the Government Printing Office to documents and are used to order items from the GPO.

TCP/IP

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol-- Allows different types of computers to communicate with each other; uses packet-switching to move data among computer networks.

TELNET

A "terminal emulation" protocol or application program that allows users to log in to another computer on the Internet.

URL

Universal Resource Locator-- The address of a WWW site.

WAN

Wide Area Network-- Electronically links computers at remote locations and allows them to exchange data.

WHCLIS

White House Conference on Library and Information Science Held in 1980 and 1991.

WWW

World Wide Web-- Enables a user to use a browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer to navigate among hyperlinked documents.

YALSA

Young Adult Library Services Association-- A division of the American Library Association. (LINK)

Z39.50

An ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standard for telecommunications.
