- Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System
- The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System is a computerized database containing very basic facts about servicemen who served on both sides during the Civil War. The initial focus of the CWSS is the Names Index Project, a project to enter names and other basic information from 5.4 million soldier records in the National Archives. The facts about the soldiers are being entered from records that are indexed to many millions of other documents about Union and Confederate Civil War soldiers maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration.

- One of the thousands of sites that compose the USGenWeb Project, this site serves as a effort to provide researchers at all levels with access to transcribed public domain records such as U.S. Census schedules, tax lists, church, cemetery, marriage, and estate records for the state of Maryland.
- Maryland Genealogical Society
- Founded in 1959 as a organization devoted wholly to the research and preservation of Maryland Genealogical History. The Society's mission is to preserve and perpetuate the records of our ancestors; to locate, preserve, index, and publish public and private genealogical records; to acquire a collection of genealogical and historical material for our library; to encourage and instruct members in the art and practice of genealogical research and compilation; and to maintain and elevate genealogical standards.
- Maryland Historical Society
- The Maryland Historical Society, widely esteemed as one of the nation's finest history museums, was established in 1844 as a private nonprofit institution to collect, preserve, and interpret the objects and artifacts that illuminate the state's history. Today, the Society contains a profusion of treasures that illuminate the lives and events that have shaped the state and nation for nearly four centuries. The collection includes more than 200,000 objects and 6.2 million books and documents, ranging from pre-settlement to the present and representing virtually every aspect of Maryland history and life.

- The National Archives contains a wealth of information about individuals whose names appear in census records, military service and pension files, ship passenger arrival lists, land records, and many other types of documents of interest to both beginning and experienced genealogists.

- ROOTS-L is primarily a mailing list for people interested in genealogy. But this site also contains files and databases started and maintained by other ROOTS-L members. Information about surnames, Civil War units, Irish-Canadians, and more.
- Rootsweb
- The oldest and largest free online community for genealogists. The site contains extensive interactive guides and numerous research tools for tracing family histories. On RootsWeb the site's WorldConnect Project contains more than 73 million ancestor names. The RootsWeb Surname List consists of a registry of nearly one million surnames submitted by more than 216,000 online genealogists.
